As we settle into 2026, the regulatory landscape is shifting from "theory" to "enforcement."
This January, we focused on deep-tier technical upgrades and user experience refinements to ensure your store doesn't just look compliant, but is built on a foundation of valid, future-proof data.
Let’s take a look at the major milestones from this month! 👇
Native Mobile Banner – Major Upgrade
With over 60% of e-commerce traffic now originating from mobile devices, a "one-size-fits-all" banner is no longer enough. We have completely overhauled our Native Mobile Banner to bridge the gap between your store and the user's operating system.
Platform-Native UI: We’ve integrated the latest iOS Liquid Glass and Android Material 3 design frameworks. This means your banner uses the same toggles, spacing, and typography that users see in their phone settings, significantly increasing trust and opt-in rates.
Frictionless Cookie Transparency: The mobile view now supports the Cookies List integration, allowing users to expand and view specific cookie details without being redirected to a new page.
Advanced Logic Support: Despite the sleek design, the backend is a powerhouse—it’s now fully compatible with Cross-Domain Consent and Google Consent Mode v2, ensuring your marketing pixels fire accurately even on mobile.
For our Enterprise users, we’ve moved the needle on EU compliance. The Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) has moved to version 2.3, and Consentmo has updated your store automatically to meet these stricter validation rules.
Deterministic Vendor Tracking: TCF 2.3 requires absolute clarity on which vendors were disclosed to a shopper. Consentmo now records this data precisely within the TC string, eliminating "vendor ambiguity" that can lead to ad-tech errors.
Consent as the Sole Legal Basis: Following updated EU guidance, TCF 2.3 removes "Legitimate Interest" for personalized advertising. Our update ensures your store only sends signals when explicit consent is given, keeping you safe from regulatory scrutiny.
Zero-Disturbance Logic: We’ve engineered this update to be "invisible." Existing consent strings are handled safely—shoppers won't be forced to re-consent unless they choose to update their preferences.
👉 How to Enable: Head to Settings > TCF 2.3 to enable the feature and keep your store safe in 2026. Available on Enterprise.
New: Imprint Link Support
In many European regions, particularly the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), a Privacy Policy alone isn't enough. An "Imprint" (or Legal Notice) is a mandatory transparency requirement.
The "Two-Click" Rule: European regulators often enforce a rule where legal info must be accessible within two clicks. By placing your Imprint link on the first layer of the cookie banner, you meet the "immediate accessibility" requirement the second a visitor lands on your site.
Customizable Visibility: You can now link your existing Shopify Imprint page or a custom URL, ensuring it sits prominently alongside your Privacy Policy for maximum legal transparency.
As of January 1, 2026, the CCPA/CPRA has moved opt-out confirmations from "recommended" to mandatory. You are now legally required to show consumers that their opt-out signal (like GPC) has been recognized.
Affirmative Confirmation: When a user clicks "Do Not Sell or Share," a clear message (e.g., "Your opt-out preference has been honored") now appears. This provides the verifiable proof required by California law.
Non-Intrusive UX: To keep the shopping experience smooth, the banner is programmed to automatically dismiss itself a few seconds after the confirmation appears, allowing the customer to continue their journey.
The "Revisit" widget is the anchor of your consent strategy—it’s how users change their minds. We’ve given it a modern facelift with more granular control.
Icon & Text Flexibility: Choose from a library of refreshed, modern icons or set a custom text label that fits your brand's voice.
Device-Specific Positioning: You can now set different "Distance from Edge" values (in pixels) for desktop vs. mobile. This ensures the widget never overlaps with your "Chat" bubble or "Back to Top" buttons.
Size Selection: Choose between Small, Medium, or Large to match the visual weight of your storefront.
Compliance shouldn't feel like a guessing game. Our new Recommended Actions panel acts as your personal compliance consultant within the app.
Priority Checklist: At a glance, see what features are enabled and what’s missing (e.g., "Geotargeting is off" or "Last scan was 30 days ago").
One-Click Fixes: Don't dig through menus; use the panel to jump directly to the settings that need your attention.
Health Monitoring: See real-time statuses of your most recent scans and active legal protections in one centralized dashboard.
